POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

I was creative and innovative since we had problems with Itch because it was blocked on the Macs, also we had to figure out how to make a collaborative group in Unity because it had changed since we did it last. I also made music in GarageBand.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

Aiden and I were close on collaboration and were checking on how each of each other’s tasks was going. Also, our team did daily stand-up meetings and made sure that we knew what we had to do each day

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I used GarageBand to create two songs for our game. I also researched the topic of creating sounds even though I didn’t do that for this session.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

Sound Design can go into a lot of different fields of work, including game design, music, and the film industry. This gave me more practice in mixing and formulating a piece of music.

Reactions to the Final Version

“Good Presentation and the right evidence was put into the slideshow” – Michelle

“Intro is way too long” -Hunter

“Music is banger” – Eben

“No way to win” -Jay

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I think that I focused too much on music and that got in the way of working on other parts of the game when I should have done a lot more coding instead. Next session I shall focus on coding a lot more. Also the intro was way too long, we aren’t gonna do that again. Our game doesn’t really tell a story, and although thats what we tried to do with our intro it didn’t really work. Our game however is simplistic but maybe too simplistic, there really isn’t much point to it. I wouldn’t say our game gets people emotional or has anything super unexpected. However if you die you fall through the floor so that may be unexpected.

LinkedIn Recommendation

Aiden is independent when you need him to get things done and hard working when he his needed in his team. I was in a team with him multiple times in our Capital High School Game Design class. If Aiden doesn’t know how to do something he learns how and brings innovative ideas to the team. Aiden is funny and a joy to be around but it doesn’t get in the way of him working hard to get things done. Aiden is a solid team member and people working with him are very lucky.

I am a Sophomore at Capital High School in Olympia Washington. I am an experienced musician and songwriter. Ever since I picked up the guitar in 2018 I have worked hard to learn and get better at mixing and playing various instruments.

I have learned and am continue learning how to write music and to collaborate with people and creative musical projects. I have performed multiple times in front of over a hundred people in the school talent show as well as a song writing workshop run by a group of local musicians and artists.

In college I wish to learn more about Sound Production and Design to be able to make my music more professional as well as help other express their creativity and make music. I wish to be creative and help people reach their dream.

I have participated in events such as the Find Your Future event. I have also participated in a songwriting workshop called the Bridge Music Project. This is a workshop where you are put into teams and for 8 weeks you work on writing a song.

Summary

I made a composition in Garageband, I did the guitar and bass myself, and programmed the drums.

Audio File Formats and Definitions

AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format): stores standard CD-quality audio; similar to WAV (Higher Quality)

WAV (Waveform Audio File Format): CD audio; can be saved with different sampling and bit rates; similar to AIFF (Higher Quality)

MP3 (Audio File): Used to store audiobooks and music on a hard drive; Close to CD-quality sound; the higher quality sound comes from higher bit rates which also take up more storage space

MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface): music data: notes played, when notes are played, how long each note is played, and the velocity of each note played; used to be able to exchange and use information between software and hardware programs; no actual audio data

What I Learned & Problems I Solved

I learned a lot how to mix instruments on Garageband, as well as I had a problem with the headphones where it wouldn’t pan but I realized I wasn’t using the right headphones.

POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

I was a critical thinker because I was having trouble getting the pacing and timing when playing the fast parts of the solo so I played it over and over again while listening to the original song.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

I did not collaborate with anyone for this project because this was a solo project.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I listened to Comfortably numb and played along with it as well as I used the tutorial stated above by guitarlesson’s365.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

Garageband is a well known DAW that I am getting better and better at using. As well as I am getting better at guitar which is also a skill that could be used in a job.

Reactions to the Final Version

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I think that I could have done better on the final version of Comfortably Numb. During the fast parts I messed up a bit and it was off a bit timing wise, and even since the recording I can play it quite a bit better.

POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

We used Unity for the first time this session. That lead to a lot of problem solving because we had to learn from scratch how to code in Unity. We had a lot of trouble getting the health bar and the shooting/collision to work but we ended up getting it working. There was also mid way through the project a change to the collaboration tool in Unity and that made it confusing.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

Aiden and I worked pretty closely helping each other out since we were the main coders, we both took turns looking over our code looking for mistakes or typos.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I used a lot of tutorials to learn how to code on Unity as well as examples of code in blogs/articles. Most of our code was from already created code that other people made, but some of the coding we figured out ourselves.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

Unity is a professional program in the game design industry. Knowing how to use Unity will be helpful if I want to get a job in the game industry.

Reactions to the Final Version

The reactions to the final version were overall good but people mentioned there was multiple ways to improve. Spencer mentioned that he really liked the recoil of the gun and that you move back a little bit. Someone also mentioned that John Elton should be bigger.

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I am pleased with final version. I think that we worked hard and especially that we were using a program that we didn’t know how to use that we accomplished a lot. I think that we could have done more in the time that was given to us but overall I am pretty happy with the overall product.

What I Learned & Problems I Solved

I learned a lot about double tracking/panning and also really learned how to use GarageBand since this was the largest project so far I have made with it. A problem I was having a problem with was figuring out the drum programmer that GarageBand has available but now that I have figured it out it is a very nice tool.

I was creative and a critical thinker/problem solver because I was having trouble getting the pacing of the solo so I played it over and over again listening to the original song while playing and then eventually I got it right

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

I did not really work or collaborate with anyone since this was a solo project and I did not need assistance from anyone with the solo. Although I did ask for assistance with some Garage Band stuff

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I listened to the original song and also used the tutorial mentioned earlier in the blog

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

I used Garage Band for the first during these projects for the first time and knowing how to use Garage Band could help with know tools such as Logic Pro

Reactions to the Final Version

The critiques I received were all good Connor said “The effects that you used were big pog otherwise know as pretty cool

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I think the final product turned out pretty well I think it resembles the original in the effects that I used as well as being the correct notes.
