May 30th June 2nd – Weekly Work Log

Game Design

Session Number:6
Week Number:1
Total Estimated Hours Contributed this Week: 4
What is/was your overall goal for this week? To work or ‘splurge’ on some ideas for music/game soundtracks

Work Tasks

Date Task Description Time Spent Was / Were your choices and work Best Practices? Why?
5/30I worked on two different splurges/ songs one of them was in 12/8 and the other I used a bit crusher effect on my guitar to create a cool sound.1 hr This is a best practice because I was creative when I used weird time signatures and effects to try something new
5/31 I added some backing guitar tracks for the bit crusher song, I also experimented with trying to write riffs in some other time signatures like 9/8 and 6/8. But I had a really hard time counting it so I didn’t really come up with anything.1 hr This is a best practice since I had to use critical thinking to try to push myself to count in 9/8 and 6/8
6/1  I worked on a riff that I came up with in 7/4, the I added some backing tracks to it as well as an intro. This time signature I clicked with the best since it sounds like 4/4 where every two measures there is just one less beat. 1 hr This is a best practice because I used creativity to work on a piece of music
6/2 I learned how to fully play Pneuma and Schism, There is still a few parts of pneuma that I have trouble counting specifically during the verse, But I know Schism all the way through 30 min Im not sure if this was a best practice, I wasn’t really working towards my goal but I guessed I used problem solving to try and figure out how to play pneuma by listening and playing along with it

What is/was your overall goal for this week? Work on new song that Connor and I was working on Sunday. We will by the end of the week have fully written the instrument part of the song and gotten the structure down.

Work Tasks

Date Task Description Time Spent Was / Were your choices and work Best Practices? Why?
5/30We went over what we needed to do for the week, and then Connor and I showed the rest of em the song, and griffin showed us his idea.1 hr This was a best practice because we had to collaborate and communicate our ideas and work on making new material.
5/31 We spent the entire time setting up the drums for Simon in the way that he wanted them1 hr This is a best practice because we had to use communication and collaboration to set up the drums correctly and the way that Simon wanted them
6/1 We played through Halo On Fire on the new drum set, and then we revisited the song that Connor and I showed Griffin on Tuesday, We worked on it but it was mostly a running through what we already have, we didn’t really add anything to the song 1 hr This is a best practice because we had to communicate to help each other learn the song.
6/2 I finished my blog post and listened to those two songs that were by Griffin and Tucker 1 hr I don’t know how this is a best practice but we were forced to do this (im not complaining btw) but I don’t think its a best practice

May 8th – May 12th Weekly Work Log Game Design

Session Number:5
Week Number:6
Total Estimated Hours Contributed this Week: 5
What is/was your overall goal for this week? My goal is to if possible make the game in a playable state, but if not, then just to make what we have as polished as possible

Work Tasks

Date Task Description Time Spent Was / Were your choices and work Best Practices? Why?
5/8I made the weekly work log for Game Design and School of Rock. I tried working on a bug that made it so some buttons didn’t make sounds, while others did. But even after searching about the problem I could not figure out what the problem was. I also through much research found out why our game was 18+ in the first place and fixed it.1 hr This was a best practice because it required problem-solving, even if I didn’t end up finding the issue
5/9 I fixed some volume issues and tried to make the game as polished as I could sound design-wise. So I fixed sound issues and mixing issues regarding the music and sound effects1 hr This was a best practice because I learned more about how Unity handles sound and mixing, and how to use it to do what I need
5/10 We shared our games and recorded them for the competition 1 hr This was a best practice because presenting is a key skill in the world of work. And is something I will have to do many times
5/11We looked at the other teams games, and then I worked on this blog post and the post-production blog post. 1 hr This is a best practice because I was on task the entire time, and got everything done by the end of the class period.
5/12 Since there was nothing else I needed to do for my blog post and nothing that I can do for the game (we are not sure if we wanna continue it or not) I decided to work on making music possibly for a future game, or maybe just for the making of music in general. I experimented with synthesizers and mixing music, to try to get a perfect mix out of a very small amount of instruments and build upon that 1 hr This is a best practice because I learned more about GarageBand and synthesizers in general.

What is/was your overall goal for this week? My goal was to record what we have of the Pirate song because last week we ended up being tasked with working on the in-ear monitors

Work Tasks

Date Task Description Time Spent Was / Were your choices and work Best Practices? Why?
5/8So Connor decided to put his 7-string guitar into the shop. Which is something that is needed to record the song. So we are now gonna record a different song, that we have been working on simultaneously. This song is called Fast song, so we practiced through the song so we could get to the point where we could record1 hr This is a best practice because we had to make a decision as a group and that required communication to figure out how we were going to go through with this.
5/9 We practiced through Fast song. (with a warmup of Halo On Fire as always) We made sure that we had the structure of Fast song, and that we would be ready to record it tomorrow.1 hr This is a best practice because we needed to be efficient and communicate and collaborate well to make sure this song is going to be ready to be recorded in such a short amount of time
5/10 During Coug Time we recorded the guitar and bass part for Fast Song. But then Simon had to get his blood drawn. So we couldn’t record drums, So Connor Gryffn and I instead decided to learn how to Play Pneuma by Tool 1 hr This was a best practice since we spent time out of class to work on what needed to be done. And then we used problem-solving to figure out how Pneuma by Tool even went since it switches time signatures every few minutes.
5/11 We recorded the drums and rerecorded some bass and Geetar. Since both Connor and myself were off time on many occasions 1 hr This was a best practice because we were communicating what we needed and what Griffin needed of us so that he can mix
5/12 We worked on all of the blog posts due today. We also listened to the mix that Griffin had magically done overnight. And we talked about what we liked and didn’t like 1 hr This is a best practice because we had to communicate what we liked and didn’t like about the mix and discussed where we wanted to go with this

May 1st – MAY 5th Weekly Work Log

Game Design

Session Number:5
Week Number:7
Total Estimated Hours Contributed this Week: 5
What is/was your overall goal for this week? To finish fixing all bugs and making sure that the game is playable

Work Tasks

Date Task Description Time Spent Was / Were your choices and work Best Practices? Why?
5/1 A new bug arose where for some reason the buttons weren’t making a sound, however, I figured out how to fix this and it turns out it was a very simple problem. The Menu system/shop is now to my knowledge bug-free1 hr  This was a best practice because I used problem-solving to fix an issue
5/2 I added my and Hunter’s evidence to the credits, I had to do this because only 3 people can be on Unity, and Hunter is not one of them. I also made sure that the game was ready to be uploaded and that everything worked, just to double triple check that.1 hr This was a best practice because it required communication so that I could put all of Hunter’s evidence into the game.
5/3I added Roberts’ evidence to the credits and started working on making sure the UI was compatible with Itch.  1 hr This was a best practice because it required problem-solving to figure out what was even wrong with the UI
5/4 I realized the issue with Itch regarding UI, and I fixed it and made sure that I changed that for every single scene in the game. 1 hr Similar to the day before I used problem-solving to figure out and fix what was wrong with the UI
5/5 We played each other’s games and got feedback from Hunter 1 hr I would say this is a best practice because the advice from Hunter helped us a lot. But I’m not sure if that counts as a best practice.

What is/was your overall goal for this week? To work on the Pirate song and make a rough mix and recording of it

Work Tasks

Date Task Description Time Spent Was / Were your choices and work Best Practices? Why?
5/1Griffin wasn’t here and Connor didn’t have his seven-string guitar so we couldn’t play the Pirate song, so we jammed and came up with some cool ideas for future songs. And of course, we warmed up with Halo On Fire as always1 hr This was a best practice because we used communication to jam with each other seamlessly and to show each other what we were doing and how to do it.
5/2 Griffin wasn’t here again, but Connor and I worked on songs that we are gonna play for the Japanese Exchange students as well as we warmed up with Halo On Fire as always.1 hr This was a best practice because we were relearning a song. Because it had been a while since we had played it. This meant we had to communicate with each other to make sure we were playing it correctly.
5/3 On Wednesday we hammered out the structure of the Pirates song and made sure that everyone knew when everything was going on. And of course, we warmed up on Halo Of Fire 1 hr This was a best practice because we communicated and collaborated to get what we needed to get done with this song for our SMART goal project.
5/4 We figured out transitions and the intro/outro for the Pirates song, and of course, we warmed up with Halo On Fire 1 hr This is a best practice because we together came up with cool ideas for transitions. And Collaborated
5/5Warming up with Halo On Fire, and then we figured out how the in-ear monitors work 1 hr This was a best practice since we had to problem solve how they worked
